George Stroumboulopoulos

George is a Canadian television and radio interviewer, writer, and media producer. He was host and executive producer of the CBC talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight (formerly The Hour) and Stroumboulopoulos on CNN, host of The NewMusic with MuchMusic, and anchored Hockey Night in Canada. He was also host of the music interview show Live in Toronto on CFNY 102.1 The Edge. George continues on radio with The Strombo Show on CBC Radio 2, in addition to a digital music series House of Strombo with Apple Music.

George is an ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme, Prince's Charities Canada, and is on the Canadian Board of Directors for Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ). He works closely with Amnesty International, the ONE campaign, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, One Million Acts of Green, and was a driving force behind Canada for Haiti.

Desiree was instrumental in supervising production on First Contact Canada. She’s produced a variety of productions at Animiki See, including: Aboriginal Day Live, Indigenous Day Live, The Solstice Concerts, 1491, Sans Réserve and Cashing In.

Jeff Newman – Executive Producer/Writer/Director

Jeff is the owner of Nüman Films, and the Writer/Director of First Contact Canada. He’s got a long resume of directing documentary films and doc-series to his credit including the Gemini Award winning Hockey Brawl. Jeff was also Showrunner of Season Two of Polar Bear Town on Smithsonian Channel. His overall sensibilities, powerful visual storytelling, and history of working with Indigenous people across the continent are an essential element of First Contact’s success.

Jocelyn Mitchell – Producer

Jocelyn has been with Nüman Films since 2012, and has produced several documentaries including Being Greene (CBC), Lacrosse: A Nations Game (Superchannel), and Treading Water (APTN/CBC). Jocelyn was key in working closely with Jeff to oversee every stage of production of First Contact Canada.

Stephanie Scott – Executive Producer

Indios Productions Inc. is a 100% Indigenous owned production company. Stephanie Scott is Anishinabe who has over 15 years of experience working in broadcasting. She has produced over 100 hours of television including documentary series, a live talk show, national events and short films. Stephanie also worked with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) where she helped manage the gathering of almost 7,000 digital audio and video recorded statements by former residential school survivors and others impacted by the schools. Stephanie is a proud grandmother, and mother.
